Please join The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association (SVCA) for a special evening presentation on Birds of Prey, Wednesday, March 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the SVCA Office, 624 Sheepscot Road, Newcastle.
What are birds of prey? How are their survival techniques different from one another? If your eyes were to the skies this year, you may have seen some of Maine's birds of prey tending their nests and raising their young. Lynne Flaccus from the Chewonki Foundation will present a program on the amazing adaptations of these hunters in the sky by introducing two live, non-releasable birds of prey including Aquila, a golden eagle.
This program compares and contrasts the special hunting adaptations of nocturnal and diurnal raptors, including their talons, their sharp, curved beaks and different wing and tail shapes. Habitat use and conservation will be discussed for some common and uncommon Maine raptors. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to handle and examine feet, wings, and skull specimens to better understand these majestic birds.
Space is limited to 30 participants so please RSVP to svca@sheepscot. org or call 586-5616 if you will be able to join us. Cost for the event is $5 per person and is free of charge to SVCA Members. For directions to the SVCA office, see our Web site at www.sheepscot.org . |
