Historic building restoration expert, Les Fossel, took Lincoln Home
residents and their guests on a virtual tour of venerable Lincoln County
buildings via slide show.
Gathered in the Lincoln Home library the tour participants ignored the
late February snow underfoot beyond the door, relaxed, and visited
buildings often familiar, and sometimes new to them. The collection of
slides, many in black and white, provided a peek at building exteriors
with which many of the group were familiar. Fascinating to most of the
audience were the photographs of interior details usually unseen except by
owners and restorers.
Fossel pointed out construction details, "shadow images" that give
clues to the original woodwork details when finish woodwork is replaced
with more modern trim, exterior design and painting that mimic more
expensive finish - wood painted to look like windows, for example.
Sensitive to the need for historic buildings to remain viable as living
and working places, Fossel often spoke of building enhancements as part of
the "continuum in the community of buildings."
At the conclusion of his presentation Fossel answered questions about
Lincoln County's historic buildings and with his knowledge and experience,
spoke specifically about the home of one member of the audience.
