Col. Allan Weeks remembered
Rep. Peter Rines honored Maine State Police Chief Col. Allan Weeks on March 12 with a legislative sentiment in his memory. Weeks died at his Wiscasset home on February 8.
"He was the kind of person who always had time to say hello," Rines said in his remarks before the House.
Weeks joined the State Police in 1950 and was promoted several times before making chief. He served as chief for 11 years, during which time he established the State Police tactical team, the canine program, the hostage negotiator team, the dive team, the internal affairs unit and the crime laboratory.
Weeks is remembered as a no-nonsense administrator who earned the loyalty and respect of the troopers.
Rep. Janet Mills, of Farmington, a lawyer and former district attorney, remembered Weeks as a "true gentleman" and a "very strong advocate for law enforcement."
"He never barked an order. He always led with courtesy, understanding and courage," said Mills.
The House of Representatives had a moment of silence and adjourned the day's session in memory of Col. Allan Weeks. |
