Louisa S. Koehling, 90, of Wiscasset, died Saturday, March 15, at her residence. Born in Arrowsic on June 6, 1917, she was a daughter of Edward Baldwin and Bessie (Palmer) Snipe. She attended Bath schools and Morse High School. On May 23, 1934 she married Bernard G. Koehling and they resided in Wiscasset for most of their lives. She was employed at Bath Iron Works during World War II as a welder tester and for Dr. Di Perri in Wiscasset for 43 years. Mrs. Koehling was the longest living member and a charter member of the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene. Louisa and her husband were instrumental in the founding of the church in 1952. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, traveling and cooking. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard G. Koehling, Sr. on October 17, 1997; one brother, Charles Snipe; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Koehling on February 25, 2008. Survivors include one son, Bernard G, Koehling, Jr.; three daughters, Barbara L. Apt and her husband Leigh of Wiscasset, Jo Anne Marie Brown and her husband Thomas R., all of Wiscasset, and Roberta J. Clark and her husband Robert of Topsham; one sister, Madelene Jones of Wiscasset; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchild-ren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21 at the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene in Wiscasset with Pastor Wally E. Staples officiating.A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Church Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 458, Wiscasset, ME 04578 to improve the sound system for the hearing impaired.
Herbert S. McIntire, 86, of Woolwich, died Wednesday, March 12 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Born in South Portland on September 2, 1921 he was a son of Raymond M. and Isabella Wallace McIntire. He grew up in Small Point and was educated there, and attended Morse High School and South Portland High School. On July 1, 1939 he married Hazel Harnish in Small Point. At age 16 he went to work at the Bath Box Shop and later the Bath Iron Works. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended Basic Engineering School in Dearborn, Michigan prior to serving aboard the USS Savannah in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. His ship was part of the convoy that took President Roosevelt to his meeting with Churchill and Stalin at the Yalta Conference. In 1949 he started a wholesale lobster business, H.S. McIntire, and a charter boat business that he operated until his retirement. Mr. McIntire enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife of 68 years; a son, William H. McIntire and his wife Barbara of Wiscasset; two daughters, Judy E. Mooers and her companion Nelson Cross of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Madelyn L. "Lynn" Bailey of Wiscasset; a sister, June Gilliam and her husband Merle of Small Point; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 15 at the Woolwich-Wiscasset Baptist Church, Rt. 1, Wiscasset. Spring burial will be in Murphy's Corner Cemetery in Woolwich. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McIntire's memory to Pine Tree Camp for Crippled Children and Adults, c/o Pine Tree Society, 149 Front St., Bath, ME 04530. Arrangements were by David E. Evelyn W. Hathorne Roberts, 94, of Hallowell, died Wednesday, March 12 at Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta. Born January 16, 1914, in Woolwich, she was the daughter of Hartley and Mildred Bishop Hathorne in Woolwich. She attended Woolwich and Bath schools graduating from Morse High School in 1932. After high school she trained to be a nurse at Bath Memorial Hospital and Mass General in Boston. She worked many years at Bath Memorial Hospital and at Togus Veterans Hospital for 25 years. For many years she was active in the Eastern Stars and the Kennebec Kennel Club. She was the first to introduce Shetland Sheep Dogs to the area, and won many medals with her dogs. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by her husband, Harold Roberts; brother, Alvin Hathorne; and sister, Madeline Delong Survivors include three brothers, Sam Hartley Hathorne of Edgecomb, Bernard Hathorne of Gardiner, and Merle Hathorne of York; four sisters, Rita Delong of Daytona, Beach, Fla., Verlie Grover and Leah Harmon, both of Wiscasset, and Barbara Hallet of Bridgewater; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation was held on Monday, March 17 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay. |
