Five members from the Wiscasset Fire Department, five members from the Wiscasset Ambulance Service, and five members from the Alna Fire Department have embarked on a 13-week weigh loss contest.

The team that loses the most percentage of body weight in the 13-week period will be declared the winners. It is unknown at this time what the award will be at the end of the program, other than having lost the most weight.

The teams will weigh in each week. Each person's weight will not be disclosed, only the total weight of the teams, and the total pounds lost by each team.

Jean Beattie has been selected by the teams to keep track of the weight losses, which will be announced each week.

Participants from the Wiscasset Fire Department are Rob Bickford, Bob MacDonald, Matt Gordon, Jake Williams, and Corey Blagdon. Participants from the Ambulance Service are Sue Anderson, Mike Williams, Marcie Lovejoy, Roland Abbott, and Kati Merryman. Participants from the Alna Fire Department include Kathy Pendleton, Ryan Demeny, Mike Trask, Mike Averill, and Troy Giroux.

The teams have not selected any special type of diet. One participant said, "Less food and more exercise is the way to go."
