Paul recalls Teresa Richardson referred to this time of year as "climbing March hill." It's been a long, cold, snowy winter, and I believe we're all getting a little tired of it, but soon we will be sliding into April.
Something to look forward to in April is the rescheduled Fireman's Annual Bean Supper. It will now be held on April 12 beginning at 5 p.m.
Several people on the island have been ill this week. My mom, Barbara Cromwell, who has been down with the flu wants to extend a special thank you to the Human Resource Committee. Cyndy Lewis, Newt Blakesly and Linda Davis of the HRC have shown up at her door with a delicious variety of turkey soup, turkey dinner and all the fixings. She truly appreciated this food as she has been too ill to shop or cook.
As I mentioned last week, I took a mini vacation to visit my friend Kathy Fairfield in Massachusetts. I had a wonderful time, but upon returning home I found myself coming down with some type of flu bug. I had to lie low from Thursday through Sunday and Paul benefited from the delivery of hot turkey soup from the HRC.
If you find yourself in need of a pick-me-up while you're down in the dumps with the flu or just cold weather doldrums, don't forget they are here to help.
I had a gentleman approach me last week asking if I knew where he could purchase a copy of the Westport Island history book that was published by the Community Association several years ago. I remember we had sold them at the store, and I believe there are none left to be had. If you happen to have a spare copy you'd be willing to sell, please contact me.
This Thursday I will cook sweet and sour chicken with rice for the store. I remember it used to be a favorite when Paul and I ran the restaurant but I haven't made it since. Hope you'll stop in and say hi.
I hope you all enjoy a Happy Easter with family and friends. If you have any news or business item you wish to see in this column, please contact me at 882-9032 or pbonyun@gwi.net . |
