Wiscasset Senior Center
The weather was great and the crowd was big and the cards, at least for a few people, were running just fine. 49 people from the Bath Senior Group and the Wiscasset Senior Center met last Tuesday, April 8 for a Cribbage Tournament and lunch. Ann Merry and Barbara Cromwell shared first and second prizes after each won all of their games. Third place went to George McLean. Low score went to Nancy Schilke. There were three players tied for the high hand of 24, and they were Keith Batchler, Clara Darling and Stewart Day. Lunch was served at the conclusion of the tournament. A tasty chicken and broccoli casserole was created by our chef Steve White. For dessert there was "make-your-own-sundaes." It just doesn't get any better then that. Everyone went home feeling like a winner. On Thursday, April 10, the winners were Linden Simmons first, Ron Bodge second, Doc Schilke got low score and Hal Thayer had the high hand with a 28. Now 24 is fairly common but a 28 occurs quite infrequently. This time Hal had the four 5's and a King. The Living Well, Chronic Condition Self-Management: six-week Seminar Series will start Monday, April 28, and continue for six Mondays. If you are interested in taking this course, please register as soon as possible by calling Spectrum Generations at 563-1363. What is a Chronic Condition? It is a condition you can work to improve over time but is never fully cured. What are some Chronic Conditions? Asthma, back pain, diabetes, arthritis, depression, heart disease, lung disease, obesity, and scleroderma. The program is appropriate for those with a chronic condition or caring for someone with a chronic condition. The Living Well program will provide you with a tool box of skills to help you develop action plans and solve problems caused by a chronic condition. The program is open to all regardless of age or WCC/WSC membership. There is a materials fee of $15 for the workbook. An optional CD is available for an additional $10. Once again there was a good crowd at last Wednesday's dinner and again there were new people in attendance. We all hope this continues and that new and long time attendees come back in the weeks to come. Chef Steve White cooked up a great dinner featuring baked haddock with a shrimp sauce. There was an optional baked chicken entrée and he complied with a special request by a few dinners to have hot sausage with onions and peppers as a third entrée. Hopefully most people will want the scheduled entrée but if it is something you just don't like then Steve will be happy to make something else as long as you give him enough time.
