Fatal motorcycle crash in Dresden

Charlotte Boynton

Staff Reporter

A fatal motorcycle accident Monday afternoon on Route 27, in Dresden, took the life of Susan McConnell, 43, of Winthrop.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Department Deputies responded to the call that came in about 1:24 p.m. through the Lincoln County Communication center that there had been a single motorcycle crash on Route 27 in Dresden, near the Wiscasset town line.

According to a press release from the sheriff's department, Deputies at the scene determined that the 2007 Honda motorcycle was being operated by the deceased was traveling northbound, and apparently lost control of the motorcycle ejecting both she and her passenger into the southbound travel lane.

The passenger, Tamara Hoke, 32, of Wilton, was taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta, with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The operator of the motorcycle was treated at the scene. Life Flight was called to transport her, but she died before being transported.

According to the Sheriff's department, speed does not appear to be a factor in the accident. Blood samples will be taken from the driver as required by law, but no information has been found indicating that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.

During the next several days, the Sheriff's Department will reconstruct the accident scene and conduct interviews to determine if some type of medical condition or vehicle defect contributed to the cause of the crash. Both the driver and the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

The State of Maine Medical Examiners Office will determine Ms. McConnell's exact cause of Death.

Lincoln County deputies, were assisted at the scene by the Wiscasset Police Department, Wiscasset and Dresden Fire Departments, the Wiscasset Ambulance, and Gardiner Rescue.
