Please join the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association (SVCA) and ecologist Jerry Therrien for a plant identification walk in Alna on Saturday, May 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. This is the final presentation in a series of three on how to manage your property for a healthy watershed. Spring is a good time to deal with potential invasives on your property as plants are easier to remove in the soft spring soils. Jerry will help participants to recognize some common native and invasive plants in our area.
Jerry Therrien has worked on various projects involving plant identification in all the New England states, Virginia, Florida, and Oregon and has had rare plant discoveries in the states of Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
Since 1991, Jerry has been employed within the Environmental Office of the Maine Department of Transportation where his responsibilities include wetland delineations, botanical surveys, and wildlife studies. He is also a member of the Maine Association of Wetland Scientists and as a hobby, enjoys studying the native vegetation from Maine to North Carolina .
The walk is limited to 20 participants. For more information or to reserve a space, e-mail us at svca@ sheepscot.org or call 586-5616. |
