Wiscasset Senior Center
On a sad note the Senior Center learned of the death of Barbara Farrar.
Barbara had been a member for many years and I think everyone would agree
that she was a great character that enlivened the center. She enjoyed
playing cribbage and bingo and after Jo Johnson had passed on Barbara took
over the management of the bingo finances. She helped with the bulletin board decorations and table decorations
too. She was always willing to lend a hand. She will be missed. It seems like a great number of Senior Center members have died in the
last year. Perhaps it is no more then in any year. It is just that so many
who have made an impression on me over the years have died recently. There
was Barbara Farrar, Grace Wetherill, Allen Weeks, Jo Johnson, Jo Bryer,
and others. They will all be missed. When a member dies their name is
added to the plaque that hangs in the dining room to commemorate all those
who have passed on. It is interesting to review that list of names and
remember those people and the contributions they have made to the Senior
Center and the community. Memories of names and faces will dim over time
but their influence and deeds shape the present and the future. All are
missed. Donations in memory of someone are always accepted by the Wiscasset
Senior Center Inc. and the Wiscasset Senior Center Scholarship Fund Inc.
Both are incorporated non-profit organizations and donations are fully
deductible within tax code limitations. Donations to the Wiscasset Senior
Center Inc will go to support Center activities and to support capital
improvements. Donations to the Wiscasset Senior Center Scholarship Fund
Inc support scholarships for Wiscasset High School graduates who want
additional training for hands-on type jobs. On a lighter note, the cribbage tournament winners on Tuesday, April
15, were Linden Simmons first, Jane LaBreck second, Patty Bridgham got low
score and Linden Simmons had the high hand. On Thursday, April 17, the
winners were Keith Bridgham first, Lewis Vigneault second, Ann Merry got
low score and Keith Bridgham had the high hand. The Living Well, Chronic Condition Self-Management six-week seminar
