Eat, dance, have fun at the farm
Jo Gallup
Put on your dancing shoes (or sneakers). The Morris Farm Contra Dance
is this Saturday, May 10, at the Wiscasset Primary School Gymnasium, 146
Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, right next to the Morris Farm.
The Morris Farm Contra Dance is known as a family and beginner friendly
dance, yet still fun for those with experience. As always, the music will
be of the highest quality. This year's performers include: caller Nancy
Rosalie, Hope Hoffman on fiddle and viola, Paul Baines on guitar, and Mark
Fruehauf on mandolin and guitar. Typically, the dance begins slowly with
an explanation of basic Contra Dance patterns. As the music heats up, so
does the dancing.
A potluck dinner precedes the dance for the first time this year. Held
at the farm (156 Gardiner Road) from 6 to 7:15 p.m., the potluck will
surely energize dancers for the evening.
The Morris Farm Contra Dance (and potluck dinner) is open to the
public. It is an important fundraiser for the non-profit working and
educational farm. Admission is $10, and includes free beverages and sweet
and savory baked goods.
The Morris Farm Trust is a 501c3 non-profit working and teaching farm
located on Rte. 27 in Wiscasset. For over a decade the farm has offered
diverse educational programming for young people and adults. Over 2000
area youth participate annually in after-school, home-school, field trip,
vacation camp and other programs.
Backyard Farmer workshops for adults are held twice a month, usually on
Saturday mornings. Special events include the Contra Dance, Spring Fest,
the annual Plant Sale, Local Foods Breakfasts, the Tour de Farms bicycle
ride, and many more. For more information, a copy of our newsletter
