Selectmen eye broadband tower space
Edgecomb Selectman Stuart Smith spoke with a lawyer from Global Towers
last week regarding space for wireless internet technologies on existing
towers. When the towers were first installed, selectmen were assured that
there would be space for town use; since that time, the towers have been
sold. Smith was assured that this has happened in other municipalities and he
is awaiting a form which will be filled out and sent back to Global Towers
outlining the discussions regarding town use of the towers with the
previous owners. Selectman John Johnson said he recently spoke with Woodward & Curran
regarding water and sewer and they provided him with a copy of suggestions
on how to properly manage utilities. Johnson felt that this would be an
excellent resource for the new Utilities Committee once it is formed.
Woodward and Curran plan on attending a selectmen's meeting in June, and
Johnson would like to see the new committee formed before that time. Recent rain storms caused significant washout on a number of town
roads, and Selectman Smith viewed the damage with Road Commissioner Scott
Griffin. The Mt. Hunger Road sustained quite a bit of damage, and two
culverts will need to be replaced. Smith said that he and Griffin
discussed the possibility of the town repaving Edgecomb's portion of the
River Rd, which could save the town and state a significant amount of
money. "It always costs the state more money to do anything," Johnson said.
Selectmen agreed to ask MDOT if it's something they would consider, but
they were doubtful the request would be granted. Selectmen signed a letter agreeing to award Greg Griffin the
snowplowing contract for the upcoming winter pending approval at the May
17
town meeting, and renewed the liquor license for Bintliff's Ocean Grill
before adjourning at 7 p.m. to attend the School Budget Validation Town
Meeting. |
