Democrats gathering at Morris Farm

Lincoln County

Democratic Committee

On Saturday, May 24, the Lincoln County Democrats will hold a lasagna supper at the Morris Farm in Wiscasset. Along with a wonderful lasagna dinner, those attending will have an opportunity to hear "Super Delegate" Sam Spencer talk about the pressures super delegates are experiencing in this primary season. Candidates Peter Rines (Senate District 20); Tim Nason (House District 53) and Dave Taylor, (County Commissioner) will talk about their positions and priorities for their candidacies.

Morris Farm, the site for the dinner, exemplifies three of the goals the Maine Democratic Party has included in its platform; to work for "economic security" for the citizens of Maine; to create "healthy communities and educational opportunities," and to commit to "environmental protection."

Morris Farm, a beloved farm to many members of the Wiscasset community, was purchased in 1994 by the Morris Farm Trust, a group of Lincoln County citizens. The intent of the Trust was to re-establish the Farm as a working farm and to having it support other farms in midcoast Maine. It serves as an example of local, ecologically-sound, sustainable agricultural practices. Its central commitments are to agriculture, education and community, and it is known as a resource for its food products and its recreational and educational programs.

Many of the candidates for election and re-election in Lincoln County have made sustainable economic development a central commitment, particularly as it relates to agriculture and natural resources in Maine. As in the Morris Farm model, most emphasize the importance of community efforts to achieve their goals.

The dinner at Morris Farm will begin with a social hour from 5 - 6 p.m. with a cash bar. Prices are: adults $10, children 1-5 yrs, free; 6 - 9 yrs. $5; family of 4 $25.

For more information call Ellie Taylor, 633-0510, e-mail: d e tay70 @verizon.net . Space is limited.

Lincoln County Democrats holds an open meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at the 911 Communications Building in Wiscasset at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be on May 20. For more information about the Lincoln County Democrats, contact Tim Nason, tim nason@gwi.net.
