Reminder - this Saturday, May 10 come on down to the town hall at 9 a.m. and join in on the annual clean up day. You can replace your spent energy with burgers and dogs provided for you upon return around noon. In case of heavy rain, the clean up will be moved to May 24 at the same time and place.

The following Saturday, May 17, is the annual wine tasting affair with a new twist; a silent auction. Stop in to the Town Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. and put your bid in on many items. Below is a list of items received at this time. (I apologize in advance if I have missed anything.)

Homemade pies, cookies and breads; a cordless tool set, baskets, a cooler, a dried flower wreath, hand knit and hand sewn items (including a handmade queen-size quilt), topsoil, a summer weekend at a Sugarloaf condo, paintings by local artists, a hand turned cherry bowl, caned chair, beaded picture frame, fresh fruit from Florida, tomato plants, weekend at Bintliff's, baking lessons, lunch on a boat, a garden ornament, an hour of college counseling (help with application, essay, interview preparation etc.), fishing trip, hand painted mailbox, hand bound books, lobsters, DVD player, and numerous gift certificates from local businesses including Lori's Island Convenience Store, Squire Tarbox Inn, Sarah's Café, Simpson's Fish Market, Shaw's, Yellowfront, Skillins Nursery, Fogg Framing, Hancock Lumber, Hannaford's, Kennebec Rental, King Eider's Pub, Montsweag Roadhouse, Anderson Nursery, and Cromwell Coastal Properties.

There are items of all values ranging from $10 to $450, so everyone will find something they want. Don't miss out on this extraordinary event! Next week I will try to put in a list of all the donors names. There are so many people and items involved it would take too much space to include in one column!

Next Tuesday, May 13, the History Committee is holding its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the old Town Hall. Everyone's welcome to drop in, hear what's going on, and share their ideas! We are hoping to have a display at Wiscasset's Fourth of July celebration on the waterfront to share some of the island's history--if you'd like to help or have something to loan for the event, please stop by or email Mary Ellen Barnes, mewbarnes2@yahoo.com

Thank you to Jim Meixell for joining the Westport Volunteer Fire Department. Thank you also to Caleb Bonyun who just completed a 24- hour weekend refresher course for his EMT certification. It's always heartwarming when people show they care by volunteering their time and services to maintain and improve life here in our community for all residents.

Susan Partelow asks that anyone who received an abatement letter in December 2007 and a correction letter in March 2008 please call the Town Office at 882-8477 to let her know how you would like it handled no later than May 16.

The Westport Island Budget Committee will hold a special meeting on Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m.

This week's Thursday special for the store is still up in the air as we've had a couple of requests, but just give Lori a call at 882-9300 for details.

Jeremy Swist, son of Barbara and Jim Swist, was named to the Dean's list at the University in Orono. Jeremy is a freshman in the Honors College and is pursuing a double major in Latin and Secondary Education. Congratulations Jeremy, keep up the good work.

We have some great kids here on Westport. If you'd like to share your child's accomplishments with us, please e-mail me at pbonyun@ gwi.net or call me at 882-9032.
