Wiscasset school teachers will be receiving back pay to September of 2006, following settlement of their union contract with the town. The teachers' last contract ended in August of 2006.

The school committee approved the three-year contract, which calls for $1,200 in retroactive pay for 2006-2007 in a lump sum for full time employees in June. Retroactive pay for the 2007-2008 year will be paid in a lump sum "equivalent to the difference between his/her 2007-2008 scale placement, minus the 2006-2007 lump sum payment of $1,200 and his/her 2005-2006 salary, to be paid in July of 2008.

The cost of health benefits, which was one of the issues the two sides had trouble agreeing on, will be as follows: in 2006-2007, 100 percent of single, 90 percent of dependent premium cost; in 2007-2008, 100 percent of single, 93 percent of dependent premium cost of the prior year; in 2008-2009, 100 percent of single cost for prior year, and 93 percent of dependent premium cost of prior year.

The salary scale will be adjusted as follows: 2007-2007, $750 on scale plus steps; 2007-2008, base at $30,000, BA steps at $1,065; 2008-2009, steps 3.5 percent of prior year step. Retroactive pay will only go to current employees; to receive the lump sum of 2006/2007, a teacher must have been employed for the 2006/2007 school year.
