National Trails Day observed at Morris Farm
Bo Gallup
This Saturday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m., the Wiscasset Community
Center, the Morris Farm, and the Town of Wiscasset will host a National
Trails Day celebration, offering guided and self-guided tours of the
adjoining Sortwell Memorial Forest, Morris Farm woods and fields, and the
Town of Wiscasset woods. Guided trail hikes will be offered at 1 and 2
p.m., departing from both the Community Center and the Morris Farm.
Also on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the Morris Farm Community
Plant sale will offer exceptional Maine grown perennials and heirloom
tomatoes. The grand opening of the Morris Farm produce stand, operated by
Buckwheat Blossom Farm, will occur simultaneous to the other events,
throughout the day. Also, Buckwheat Blossom Farm will offer horse drawn
wagon rides at the Morris Farm, from noon to 2 p.m. Live music and a
potluck picnic and BBQ will punctuate the day, beginning at 4 p.m.
The public is encouraged to participate in the National Trails Day
event. Open trails will be marked, and trail maps will be provided. The
coordinated trails project is a multi-year project to develop this
underutilized but important Wiscasset resource. For more information about
the June 7th event, or to find out how to become involved in this project,
call Todd Souza of Parks and Recreation at (207) 882-8230, or Bo Gallup,
