On Sunday, August 3, the Bath Municipal Concert Band will be playing at
the Head Tide Church in Alna to celebrate the Church's 170
th
Anniversary. The event, sponsored by Friends of the Head Tide Church,
starts at 1 p.m. and August 10 is the rain date. All ages are
welcome!
According to the Band's website
www.bathband.org
, there has been a musical band in Bath for over 90 years. It was known
for decades as the Dunlap Commandery Band. The Band is all volunteer,
comprising professional and amateur musicians.
The concert will be held outside, so people are welcome to bring their
own blanket or chair and a picnic. Suggested donation is $10, and box
lunches will be available for purchase.
All proceeds will help restore the Head Tide Church, built in 1838.
Currently the Church is being painted, and the chandelier is being
restored.
The Church is located on Head Tide Church Road, which is off of Head
Tide Road. From Wiscasset, take 218 North for approximately 8 miles; turn
right onto Head Tide Road. Parking is at the Head Tide Dam or in the
field. There is no parking at the Church; a shuttle will be available for
those unable to walk up the hill to the Church.
The Friends of the Head Tide Church is an all-volunteer group which
formed in the 1940s to help restore the Church.
