Tell It To George
Tell It To George is a collection of thoughts from here and away, from
people who want to get their two cents worth in, without using their
names.
Governor King says that Maine may be "almost uninhabitable" in 10 years
if energy costs continue to increase.
Now we know what the laptops for kids were for: to research where they
are going to live when they graduate.
So weighing of commercial haulers has been delayed yet again in
Wiscasset. Maine Yankee closed in 1997 and, after 11 years, Wiscasset
still cannot figure out how to weigh trash!
There are three people on the waterfront who have used our electricity,
and our mast and boom to haul out their traps. They did not pay for the
use of the facilities. The rest of the fishermen have to pay to use the
waterfront.
The town manager and the selectmen were told about this and they did
nothing. So I feel that the selectmen and town manager are stealing from
the taxpayers as well as the three people. $80,000 is not enough? More to
come.
One guess as to which street has the most houses for sale? In the
restaurant the other morning a guy from away said all the "For Sale" signs
reminded him of Gary, Ind. He asked which mill or mine just closed.
Thanks for the explanation on absentee voting which was in last week's
paper. You can count me in as a "new" absentee voter from now on.
Also, Alan Bebout is a great addition to your newspaper reporting, he
is really into some cool stuff!
No, was, and is, the answer
To the point; what part of NO is it that the selectmen do not
understand. They are coming back with $18,000 for the police cruiser. We
as voters said "no" once and this should be enough. Cut out the on and on
stuff. No means NO. Vote NO for the police cruiser. No. No. No!
Selectmen: respect the voters and stop defying them.
Since we are unable to pay to heat our homes this coming winter, we
must shut off part of it. So I feel that it is unreasonable to ask us to
pay to heat the Recreation Center. This should be the sole responsibility
of those who use the center.
In fact, the action of the selectmen, to increase the amount of money
of their requests, which the voters just said "no" to, within the last
couple of months, defies logic.
Join my husband and myself in voting NO on this article, and allow the
Recreation Center to downsize to the extent of those that use the facility
who are solely responsible for it.
Those of us who cannot afford to use the services, cannot afford the
financial burden. Once again, use logic and vote NO.
I loved taking part in the Fourth of July activities and would like to
thank everyone who took part or planned it or did anything to make it so
much fun. I don't live in Wiscasset, but my family does, so I wanted to
say thank you to all.
